Cash-rich league may be moved to Sri Lanka if government cannot promise security for players due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections which will be held in 2014

Next year's IPL to be held abroad?

The Indian Premier League’s seventh edition could be held outside India if the Indian government cannot guarantee security to the players like what happened in 2009.

It is learnt that the mandarins of the Indian cricket board have thought about this as a back-up plan although conducting the glamour-filled league in India will always be ideal.

It can be presumed that South Africa won’t host it like in 2009 considering the strained cricketing relations between the two countries. In the wake of this situation, Sri Lanka is likely to gain.

The franchises won’t be happy if the league is shifted because they suffered big losses in 2009.
