Carter, 35, said his former bandmate Joey Fatone encouraged him, reported Billboard.
"I was really debating if I wanted to do it, " says the ex-Backstreet Boy. "He said, 'You'll get what you put into it.' And I'm a hard worker, so I think it'll be fun." His younger brother Aaron also competed on the show, though not all that successfully.
"My brother was on it; he's a great little dancer and entertainer so I saw it through his eyes throughout that experience. I think there's a little something inside of me that says, 'Okay, I'm going to go there and represent the Carter name and do even better than what he did!'"
Carter, who has says he "never considered" himself a great dancer, says he hopes "maybe I can become a better dancer! It'll be a great experience to learn how to ballroom dance."
