On Saturday, Omolore jumped from a room at Siddhivinayak Society at Vasant Nagari, Nalasopara East, where he had gone to meet some fellow Nigerian friends.
According to the officials, they received a tip-off about Omolore’s illegal status and walked into Siddhivinayak Society at 12.30 am. When they began questioning him about his invalid visa, he pushed a constable aside and jumped off a window of the apartment. The police said he first fell on two iron rods jutting out of the walls of the building, which pierced Omolore’s body and he died on the spot. They later found his passport on his person.
Senior Inspector Ravindra Bajdur of Nalasopara police station said, “The deceased didn’t have a valid visa and lived illegally at his housing society. Over the past month, we arrested five landlords and Nigerians in similar cases. Landlords must inform the police before giving their home out on rent. Having tenants without police verification is a crime.”
