Event comes to an abrupt end due to a most-inconvenient rule

Kannada movie Coffee Shop's director Geetha Krishna had to forgo his cup of coffee at his movie's audio release function, thanks to a rule according to which all Sandalwood events must end by 6 pm, part of a cost-cutting drive by the Kannada film producers chamber.

The now-infamous Kannada Film Producers Association rule has interrupted many press conferences midway, so far.

The association had sent notices to PROs directing them to not have press conferences after 6 pm.

As the clock struck 6 pm, media persons walked out of the event even though it had not ended. Krishna had organised the event at a five star hotel at the cost of around Rs 1.5 lakh.

The event which began at 4.40 pm, was attended by luminaries.

"I had organised a dinner for the media because of their enthusiasm for my movie, and had invited industry and political bigwigs for the audio release.

But when the media went out in the middle of the event I was really disturbed and I didn't even have cup of coffee there," said Geethakrishna.

"I don't want to comment about the association rules, but audio release functions in Hyderabad and Chennai were successful. As a director I am not happy with such time restrictions for a press conference," he added.

Shocked

Dr Jayamala, Chairperson, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce was also shocked when the media got out midway.

"I really don't know anything about this rule. Such rules play tyrant to media and the film industry. I'll discuss this with the association," she said.

Gutsy producers

Reportedly a few producers, including Agni Shridhar and Prem, recently called press meets after 6pm.

"They don't care about the association rules, and the Association also does not question them, since they are influential," said a source.
