No confusion in BSc exam timetable, says Mumbai university

After confusing students and parents alike with its timetable of first semester examination of Bachelor of Science (BSc), which had different papers on the same day and same time, the Mumbai university has said that the timetable is not wrong and that it will soon explain how.

The controller of examinations of the university held a meeting of an expert committee yesterday after complaints from students as well as colleges. It will now issue a circular to explain colleges how to conduct the examination with multiple question paper sets for every subject. It will also issue a revised timetable in couple of days.

mid-day had reported how the university wants first semester of BSc students to appear for two papers at a time, as the timetable declared by MU showed clashing of several exams.

A committee member, Dr Vijay Joshi, told mid-day, “We will soon be issuing a circular to clarify how colleges should conduct the examination. The multiple question paper set approach has been taken for this examination, which is what could have led to the confusion.”

Joshi refused to explain further, saying everyone should wait for the circular. He, however, added, “As done in the arts faculty, MU wants to start the process of faster examination in science stream as well. The age-old approach made the exams drag on for a month. With the new system, we aim to finish sooner.”
