The letters come at the heels of protests by Maharashtra Navnirman Vidhyarthi Sena (MNVS) activists after St Vincent's School and Loyola High School conducted such tests on January 30
Ramchandra Yadav, education officer, PMC, pre-primary and primary education, said, "We dispatched the letters following the MNVS' protests. Moreover, according to the Mumbai Primary Education Act of 1947 and 49, no school can conduct admission tests."
'Can't be helped'
Father Alex Quadros, principal, St Patrick School near Empress Garden, said, "I am aware of the guidelines issued but my question is, on what basis should we select students?"
Prashant Kanoria, vice president, youth wing, MNVS said, "An entrance test is too much of a burden on small kids. If any school is found holding such tests, they should be penalised."
