On july 18, when MiD-DAY reported about a defunct X-Ray machine at Paharganj terminal of New Delhi Railway Station, the hope was for some betterment. Unfortunately, it did not happen.

Not only was the machine not repaired, it vanished completely from the station. Now, it's just two policemen manning an average daily influx of thousands of commuters.

Such dismal security arrangements at the busiest railway station in the Capital say all about the government preparedness to counter terror threats.

MiD-DAY reporter stayed there for sometime to see whether the guards ask the passengers to open up their luggage or not. On an average, the guards asked one out of 20 people what was inside their bags.

Even in that case, a verbal answer sufficed and nobody needed to actually open up the bags. Vikas Das, who had come to receive a relative, said, "This is unbelievable. Is this how they protect us?"
