Not in your league, Modi

My NEWS readers agree with P Chidambaram that the Gujarat riots and not shifting the IPL were a national shame

Not holding the IPL in India, or to be more pertinent, not allowing it to be held on grounds of inadequate security, seems to have taken the breath away from people for whom the "tamasha" meant everything.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has accused Home Minister P Chidambaram of cowing down to terrorists.

Lalit Modi's decision to hold the tournament in South Africa testifies to the fact that the trailer dished out to the Sri Lankans in Pakistan could jeopardize the holding of this event in India.

Modi needs to do a little soul searching. Was the holding of the IPL in India, given the circumstances, really warranted? If his answer still is in the positive, then he still has a lot to learn about the nation's interests. At the end of it all, cricket is insignificant as compared to national security. Then why lose sleep over a trifle?

Narendra Modi didn't think before he said that it was shameful to move IPL out of India. Chidambaram's reply to him was apt. Modi needed a reminder about the Gujarat riots, which he seems to have forgotten about, but Indians can never forget theu00a0 hundreds of innocent people killed during the Godhra carnage. The Modi government seemed indifferent to the massacre.u00a0u00a0

Today, despite the threat of terror looming over our heads, Modi is of the opinion that the IPL should have been hosted in India. One shudders at the motive of such politicians.u00a0u00a0

Elections are more important than IPL, and relevant security is also important. Hence, seeing the day-to-day situation, it is understood that security cannot be provided to both at a time. So, the decision taken by the home ministry to shift the IPL from India was for the best.u00a0
