Not just a classic cash in

Four months ago, when we soaked in the warm fuzzy Indus Creed nostalgia was during the Whirling Kalapas, in an acoustic set-up, with vocalist Uday Benegal and guitarist Mahesh Tinaikar at the helm.

Sure, we remember only two tracks off the Indus Creed playlist (of course, Pretty Child) that Whirling Kalapas performed, but it just hit home the fact that Indus Creed has never been out of our
memory.

Who better to decode the new sound than a contemporary musician? Drummer Jai Row Kavi who also plays with Whirling Kalapas tells us what it's like to be a part of a band that he's idolised.

"I was born in 86. These guys have been making music much before I started out. While I want to respect that sound by keeping it as authentic as possible, Uday's been cool enough and has always asked me to do my own thing," he says. Expect a more progressive sound. "It will be a little heavier and there will be a bit of Electronica as well," says Row Kavi, "Mahesh has a new Les Paul, Zubin's brought back his old keyboards."

The gig promises to be a mash up of the old and the new.The band currently includes Uday Benegal on vocals, Mahesh Tinaikar on lead guitar, Zubin Balaporia on keys from the original line-up and Row Kavi on drums and Rushad Mistry on bass. Mumbai rock band Split willalso perform tonight.

AT Hard Rock Cafe, Bombay Dyeing Mills Time: 9.00 pm Entry: Rs 500
