Camp's second major chaat outlet also offers full meals but unfortunately it doesn't go beyond the neighbourhood vegetarian eatery
Considering they have a Bavdhan branch that's almost an institution, when Tasty Tongues opened in Camp,
we were happy to welcome them. They may identify themselves as a chaat house but chaat forms just one aspect of the starters. On the menu are listed a variety of parathas, followed by substantial options in terms of Indian gravies, dals, rice, thalis and Indian desserts.

To do them justice, we began with the chaat and then moved on. Our Komcha Chaat (Rs 40) came in a plate with dahi bhalla and topped with regular sev, chole chana and the various chutneys. Guess they tried to create a combo meal here but it didn't work for our tastebuds.
To dispel the over-sweet flavour, we chose a Masala Puri (Rs 30). To us, the words masala puri, signify a zingy, salty offering that the local chaatwala gives you gratis after your binge. This one, instead was pani puri's puris stuffed with ragda, topped with thick sev and chutney. We popped one in only to discover to our dismay that it was chilled and sweet again.
Quite done with the chaat, we ordered a real meal. Of the long list we chose the Mooli Aloo Pudina Cheese Paratha (Rs 70). As we waited, we asked for a Sweet Lassi (Rs 30) to wash down the chaat. It was thick and
delicious. Our paratha arrived with its little bowl of curd and a dash of mango pickle. Sinfully layered with butter as it was, it looked a tad too thin for the various stuffings we had ordered. Nonetheless, we broke it and began the adventure. After a couple of bites, anticipating the arrival of the mooli, mint and cheese, we realized that we had received a wrong order.
Since we had eaten into it, we decided not to bother the annoyed looking server and braved on into our latest Aloo Paneer Paratha (Rs 50). It tasted just fine, your average paratha anywhere anytime. Finally, it was time for dessert and we chose what seemed to be the most popular dish there. There were quite a few tables around us ordering only the jalebis.
Somehow, everyone seemed to having an issue with them as wellu00a0-- 'they are too thin', 'they are too sweet', 'has your jalebi guy changed?'. By the time ours arrived, we were quite
skeptical. The leaf bowl brought to our table was steaming hot and tasted as delicious as it looked. Perhaps they had a higher standard in the past that we were unaware of.
The service was polite but confused. By the time we were almost through with our paratha, our attendant did realise that the order had been mixed up and came to tell us so. We assured him not to worry. Also, though we would have appreciated cleaner uniforms and bare fingers not touching our chaat, we shall let that one pass.u00a0
Tasty Tongues has a great location and a concept that has mass appeal. Though they were reasonably full during lunch hour, they are the kind of restaurant that should have people queuing up. Maybe they need to work on their tasty tongue aspect.
