A pet social app lets you find a play date for your dog or cat, adopt one and discover vets and pet-friendly cafes in your neighbourhood
Meet Scooby aka the great cuddler. He's a male beagle who loves those who share food with him, especially chicken. He is looking for a girlfriend "who doesn't bark a lot and loves cuddling too". To find other matches, swipe left. This Tinder-style feature is part of PetMates, a two-month-old pet social app available for free on Android and iOS platforms.

"Pet parents and animal lovers connect on an emotional level, which is the best way to network. However, looking at the social platforms out there, we realised that this audience and information is scattered. The idea is to build a community of pet parents via a single platform," says Lavesh Khairajani, who has co-founded the app with Karlyle Gomes, under their creative solutions agency, Under One Roof.
After logging in, you need to create a profile where you share a bio of your pet. The home page of the app is a social media feed where you can share photographs of your furry friend and put up status updates.
The app also offers a database of pet services based on your location. These include vets, pet sitters and dog walkers, product and food suppliers, transport services like Pet Taxi, grooming centres, boarding facilities and pet-friendly cafés in your neighbourhood. You can also review and rate each service.

Currently, the database covers Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru and Goa. "The pet industry is growing steadily and the platform helps small and medium-sized enterprises to reach out to their target audience. At this stage, the app includes contact information of the providers. In the next phase, we aim to expand it as a vendor app, where you can make appointments and chat with the service providers via the app itself," adds Khairajani.

There's also an FAQ section that features a host of common queries, including how to determine a pup or kitten's gender and keys to handle a dominant dog, which are sure to help first-time pet parents.
