CIDCO to build 12,000 flats for high, middle and low income groups in three to five years


For house hunters in Navi Mumbai here is a piece of good tiding. The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO) has decided to build about 12,000 flats for all-income groups in Navi Mumbai in the next three to five years.

The Board of Directors has approved the construction of the flats in Vashi, Ghansoli, Kharghar, Panchnad and Taloja nodes.u00a0



At least 1,118 flats will be built for High Income Group (HIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) in Kharghar node in the first phase of the mega project.

"We have got principle approval for construction of 1,118 flats for HIG and MIG," said Keshav Warkhedkar, chief engineer of CIDCO. "With Floor Space Index (FSI) of 1.5, 712 flats with carpet area of 611 square feet will be built for MIGs in 14 buildings, while 406 flats with carpet area of 1,070 square feet will be constructed for HIGs in eight buildings. All the buildings will come up in six hectares of land in Sector 36 of Kharghar node."

CIDCO has awarded Rs 400-crore contract for the construction of 1,118 flats to B G Shirke constructions. The company is expected to construct the flats in 30 months, which will be sold by CIDCO through lottery system. CIDCO has not yet decided the rates for the flats.

"CIDCO has given the contract to B G Shirke constructions wherein the company is scheduled to complete the construction of 1,118 flats in 30 months. Rates of the flats and the procedure and schedule of the lottery system have not been decided yet, but it is expected to be finalised in the upcoming meeting of the Board of Directors of the CIDCO," said Warkhedkar.

He also said more than 10,000 homes will be built for Low Income Group (LIG) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in a span of next three to five years.

Homes for LIGs
Homes for LIGs will get carpet area of 360 square feet while homes for EWSs will get 280 square feet.

All these flats will be built in Vashi, Ghansoli, Panchnad and Taloja and will take up about 18 hectares of land.

"The proposal of homes for LIG and EWS is expected to be approved in the next meeting of the Board of Directors. Once the proposal gets approved by the board, construction will start immediately," said Warkhedkar.
All 22 buildings for MIG and HIG will have two lifts each and commercial complexes on the ground floors. In addition, the buildings will have swimming pools and playgrounds, said sources. The construction work of the first phase of the project is likely to commence in the next two months.
