Christchurch: Kane Williamson made 61 and debutant Jeet Raval an unbeaten 36 as New Zealand cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first Test at Christchurch yesterday.

Opener Raval displayed a calm temperament in adding to his first-innings 55, after fellow newcomer Colin de Grandhomme's six for 41 had initially put the tourists on the back foot as they made just 133 having been put in.
Resuming on 129 for seven, Pakistan at least succeeded in bettering their first-innings score. But despite late resilience from Sohail Khan, who thrashed 40 from 39 balls, their total of 171 set New Zealand only 105 for victory.
That target proved routine despite Mohammad Amir dismissing Tom Latham cheaply for the second time in the match. Williamson and Raval then took charge with a stand of 85. Williamson fell to part time spinner Azhar Ali late on, but Raval struck the winning boundary in the next over.
