Obscene Net profile case: Accused man, father still at large

Two days after a woman lodged a police complaint against her husband, an engineer who allegedly created a fake, obscene profile of hers by the name of Shobha Aunty on social networking websites, the police had still not arrested her husband and his 60-year-old father.

The woman was allegedly harassed because she did not accede to demands to bring jewellery from her parents' home.

PSI Tejaswini Yadav, the investigating officer in the case, said, "The engineer allegedly stooped to the level of creating an obscene profile of his wife on the lines of an fictitious online character known for her obscene tips.

The Sahakarnagar police have booked the husband and in-laws of the 30-year-old woman for the obscene profiles on Orkut and Facebook after she refused to bring jewellery and money from her parents."

The complainant got married to the accused, Nikhil Uttekar (32), a mechanical engineer, in May 2009 and they started living at his home in Aniket Society in Bibwewadi. Yadav said, "The complainant is an MSc but lost her job for some reason after a few months of marriage. After that her husband and in-laws started harassing her, asking her to bring money and jewellery from her parents."

Around May this year, Nikhil allegedly created the obscene profile on Orkut and Facebook and even posted his wife's cell number on them.

He is also believed to have sent scraps (messages on Orkut) and Facebook messages to many of the contacts, giving the address of the profile he had created. Within a few days, the complainant started getting calls from many people with obscene demands. Yadav said, "The complainant suffered a lot because of these calls. The suspect also published fake information about the victim and said she was separated from her husband."

When the complainant spoke to her husband about the calls, he doubted her character and said that the calls must be from the people she used to meet when she went to her parents' residence in Hadapsar. "Getting fed up with this, she went on to live with her parents in October," Yadav said.

The police said that though the profiles that the complainant referred to do not exist any more on the sites, they have evidence of their existence in the past. After verifying their IP addresses the accused will be booked under the provisions of the IT Act.
