Obscene SMS lands 3 in lock-up

Three young men arrested in Loni Kalbhor for vulgar text sent to newly married woman

Sending an obscene text message on the mobile phone of a newly married woman landed three young men from Loni Kalbhor in the police lock-up.

The three arrested suspects were identified as Girish Digambar Chand (23), Vijay Sahebrao Javalkar (18), Prashant Arun Gaikwad (20), all residents of Alandi Mhatobachi.

Chand said he was clueless about the message sent from his number as his SIM card was with Gaikwad, who the police said confessed to composing the message for Javalkar to send.

It had become clear when the names of the suspects were revealed during investigations that they were known to the victim. Two of the suspects told the police they had sent the SMS just for the sake of having some fun.

A case was registered against the three and they were remanded in police custody by a court.

"The victim had married a few days ago and had been staying at Tardeo in Mumbai. She had returned home when she received an obscene SMS on her mobile on September 24 evening," Police Inspector Suhas Garud said. "The lady was shocked after seeing the vulgar SMS and informed her father about the incident. Her father decided to file a police complaint. We traced the sender using information provided by the service provider."

The SIM card details led a police team to Chand, who admitted he owned the card but denied having sent the message. Chand said Gaikwad was using his card.

The police detained Gaikwad, who confessed to having keyed in the vulgar message, but not to sending it.
Gaikwad said it was Javalkar who sent the message.

"Javalkar was also arrested along with Chand and Gaikwad," Garud said.
