England skipper Alastair Cook has etched his name in cricket record books after scoring his 29th Test century at Old Trafford on Friday. Cook's ton sees him draw level with the great Sir Donald Bradman in the all-time list.

The England skipper, who was eventually bowled by Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir for 105, is following in a proud tradition of making Old Trafford the venue of historic events.

Here are some of the important cricketing moments that have taken place at Old Trafford:

Old Trafford is England's second oldest test venue. It was the venue for the first ever Ashes Test to be held in England in July 1884 and has hosted two Cricket World Cup semi-finals.

In 1956, the first 10-wicket haul in a single innings was achieved by England bowler Jim Laker who achieved amazing bowling figures of 19 wickets for 90 runs - a bowling record which is unmatched in Test and first-class cricket.

The venue also saw the first ofmany Test hundreds by batting icon Sachin Tendulkar in in 1990. The little genius made 119 not out

In the 1993 Ashes Test at Old Trafford, leg-spinner Shane Warne bowled Mike Gatting with the Ball of the Century.

Australia were again the victims in 1981 when Sir Ian Botham lit up a damp day by hooking Dennis Lillee into the stands.

In 1995, the ground witnessed Dominic Cork taking a hat-trick against West Indies.

In 1999, over 22,000 watched India beat Pakistan in the World Cup. India thrashed Pakistan by 47 runs, maintaining their all-win record over their arch-rivals in the World Cup. Dravid (61 from 89 balls, 4 fours) and Azharuddin (59 from 77 balls, 3 fours, 1 six), led the way as India posted a total of 227/6 in their 50 overs. Prasad then ripped through the Pakistani batting line-up, taking 5/27 as Pakistan were bowled all out for 180.

Interestingly, England have won seven matches at Old Trafford and are unbeaten in nine Tests since they lost to Pakistan here in 2001.
