It was proud moment for India as it's favourite daughter Saina Nehwal won the bronze medal in the badminton women's singles at the London Olympics after her Chinese opponent Wang Xin was forced to retire hurt.
This is India's first Olympic medal for badminton.
At the time Wang retired, she was leading 21-18, 1-0 in the play-off match. Wang, the world number 2, was going for a cross-court return when she twisted her left knee and collapsed. Though she resumed and even won the game, she was in a lot of pain and decided to concede the match.
Saina had earlier become the first Indian to reach the Olympic semi-final in badminton, but was beaten 13-21 13-21 by world number 1 Yihan Wang of China in the semis.
