On-screen chemistry cannot be created: Deepika Padukone

After being spotted for her oomph quotient to getting laurels for her acting chops, Deepika has come a long way. Here’s what Dips had to tell CS when we met her recently at a technology-relatedevent.

Not a gizmo freak
I won’t term myself as being crazy for gadgets. I don’t keep track of all the new gizmos in town, nor do I want to possess the latest model that comes into the market. My use of technology is limited to laptops and smart phones. When I am working, I am on my phone 24x7, but there are days when I switch off my phone and I am totally inaccessible.

Camera calling
My favourite device has to be the camera. I love clicking pictures. Nowadays, you can do so much with the pictures like captioning them, changing the background or just having fun with someone’s face (laughs out loud). At times, I enjoy having fun with gadgets. I think technology has made life a lot easier for us actors. You can enhance so many aspects of a film with the right techniques. It is a blessing.

Bollywood buddies
I have very few friends in Bollywood, but they are all really good ones. Ranveer Singh, Shahrukh Khan, Dinesh Vijan are people who are very close to me and I trust them a lot. I must say that I have been privileged to work with some really good people. The one thing I have learnt about B-Town friendships is that one must not take sides if two parties are having a problem. After all, those two guys are the only ones who know what really went wrong. I will say that I never went out of my way to cultivate friends, the rapport has come naturally. It is an organic process.

Chemistry lessons
On-screen chemistry cannot be created. It is either there or not there. I feel that Ranbir (Kapoor) and I share a brilliant on-screen chemistry. It comes through well in our films, especially in the romantic ones. I definitely want to do more romantic films with him. The fact that we are good friends in real life does help in the work aspect as well.

Actor’s take
It is very important for me to be recognised as a good actor. I want both the critics and audiences to love me. While commercial success is important, being recognised for your craft is equally important. I am very passionate about acting, and want to get better with every film. I have worked very hard, and will continue to do. u00a0
