In what can be termed as a huge loss for the country's downhill biking community, one of India's best downhill biker, Ajay Padval, 22, died while performing the sport on Wednesday. Sources said that Ajay was wearing a helmet and all the required gear when the incident happened, but even then he suffered serious head injuries. He had a steep fall while coming downhill from Khardung La.

Soon after getting the news of his death, the community members took to Facebook to express their condolences. One such post said, "When you're on the edge of danger, that's when you really feel life... This is what being alive means in extreme sports for us. We don't want to sit at a desk all day.... We want new experiences. It's not being overly selfish as people might say.... We often know what the risks are and how to manage them... But if the time has come, then one can't do anything... RIP Ajay Padval. In such a short period of your life, you have lived truly... There will be a huge void in our lives.... You have been a great support in my life! You will be missed forever."

Another message on Facebook read as, "R.I.P my brother. The mountain biking community lost a great soul today. You will truly be missed. Our trips and adventures will always be remembered. You will always be in my heart. Love you brother."

Parents unaware
Ajay Padval's parents are still not aware of his death. Soon after his elder brother received the news, he rushed to New Delhi. His body will be brought to Pune today for the final rites.
