Pretoria: Oscar Pistorius is not expected to be the first witness to take the stand as his defence team prepares to launch their case on Monday.

The athlete's lawyer, Brian Webber, said pathologist Jan Botha is "likely" to be the first witness to be called when the murder trial resumes next week.

Pistorius was expected to begin as the first defence witness next week after judge Thokozile Masipa postponed the proceedings for more than a week due to the illness of one of her legal assistants.
Pistorius, who shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp thrice on the night of February 14 last year claims he did so mistaking her to be an intruder.
The prosecution however, claims that the Paralympian intentionally killed Steenkamp and have even suggested that that the couple had a heated argument before the three shots were fired.
