While accused who shot businessman dead is yet to be arrested, cops probe if murder has underworld involvement

Oshiwara murder case: Three arrested, main accused still at large

The Oshiwara police arrested three men yesterday and are on the lookout for the main accused, who planned and executed the murder of 45-year-old businessman Ejaz Khan.

A resident of Al Madina building in Millat Nagar society, Jogeshwari (W) Ejaz was shot dead while he was out for a walk near his home on December 15.

On December 17, MiD DAY had reported about two men being booked for the murder that happened last Saturday (‘Oshiwara bizman was shot over redevelopment dispute’). While one of the two was arrested yesterday, the other remains at large.

According to police, the arrested accused have been identified as Arman Ali Shaikh (23), Mubashir Firoj Ahmad (22), and Athar Ajmal Khan alias Papa (33). Shaikh lives in Jogeshwari (W) area, while Ahmad and Papa live in Millat Nagar society, where the victim resided. Abrar Khan, the main culprit who allegedly shot Ejaz, is still at large.

Police said the three arrested accused were planning to redevelop five buildings in their society, which Abrar was in support of. They had also floated the project to a builder.

Ejaz’s father was the secretary of the federation of the society until a year ago. The redevelopment of the society was proposed after the new secretary came to power, but Ejaz and his father were opposing the project since only five buildings were included in the plan. They demanded the redevelopment of all 15 buildings in the society, and this led to heated arguments and delays.

To get rid of the obstacle, the accused planned to eliminate Ejaz from the equation. On December 15, the four drove to the spot in Oshiwara where Ejaz was walking. Abrar exited his car and shot Ejaz in the left ribcage. He was rushed to Kokilaben Ambani hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police are investigating and are trying to determine whether or not the case has an underworld connection. A police source said, “Both the victim and the accused allegedly have connections in the underworld, so there is a possibility that the gangland could be involved in the murder.”

Police are also examining whether the builder lobby could be a part of the conspiracy. “We have arrested the accused and will present them in court on Saturday,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, Vishwas Nangre Patil.

The police are now trying to trace the two vehicles used by the accused for their getaway. u00a0
