Paes-Kubot ousted from Valencia Open

Valencia: Indo-Polish tennis combine of Leander Paes and Lukasz Kubot suffered an unexpected loss at the Valencia Open here as the second seeds were upset in straight sets in the men's doubles quarterfinals of the 537,050-euro tournament.

Australian-Brazilian pairing of Chris Guccione and Andre Sa accounted for the loss of Paes and Kubot, clinching the contest 7-6(6), 6-4 in an hour and 35 minutes on the indoor hard courts of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències on Thursday.

The first set was hotly contested and neither pair won a break of serve as the set went into the tie-break. Guccione and Sa fired as many as eight aces in the set and the tie-breaker to win it for themselves.

Though the second seeds got a break of serve on the only opportunity they got in the second set, Paes and Kubot were broken once more which was enough for the unseeded pairing to seal the deal.

Also, as many as five double faults in the match did not work in favour of Paes and Kubot.
