Pakistan has inked a $300 million deal with China to acquire state of the art equipment to fight terror, the country's interior minister has said.

"We have signed agreements worth $300 million to acquire state-of-the-art equipment to combat terrorism," Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters in Beijing.

The first consignment of the much-needed equipment would reach Pakistan within three weeks, he added.

The equipment includes mobile scanners that can detect hidden explosives and drugs.

"Initially, we would start employing this equipment in the metropolitan cities like Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi and then gradually we plan to cover the entire country," The News Friday quoted Malik as saying.

Malik said he had assured China that Pakistan was committed to eliminating extremism, terrorism and separatism, and would not allow any terrorist outfit to operate from its soil.

In this context, he noted that there were "traces" of the terrorist outfit East Turkmenistan Independence Movement (ETIM) in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and that firm action was being taken against the rebels.
