In a span of 10 hours, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire twiceyesterday by targeting Indian posts along the Indo-Pak border in Poonch and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir.u00a0Mortars, rocket projectile grenades (RPGs) and heavy machine guns were used leading to heavy firing exchanges, officers of the Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF) said. With these two incidents, the number of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in July has risen to six.

Police sources said that Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions in Hiranagar sector of the international border in Kathua district of Jammu region last evening.
“Initial reports have said one BSF trooper was injured when Pakistan troops fired at our positions in Hiranagar sector of the international border. The fire was returned and the exchange of fire is still continuing in the area,” a police said.
A ceasefire agreement signed by India and Pakistan in 2003 has brought in a modicum of normalcy in the lives of thousands of people living on the two sides of the international border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Indian- and Pakistan-administered parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Intelligence agencies claim that Pakistan troops have been violating the bilateral ceasefire to provide cover to heavily-armed guerrillas so that they can sneak into the Indian side of the borders in Jammu and Kashmir.
Poonch
Earlier in the day, Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts by firing RPGs and heavy machine guns along LoC in Doda Battalion forward area in Poonch district since 7.30 am. There was no loss of life or injury to anyone on the Indian side in the firing, he said. Officials are manning the situation along the border and troops have been asked in other forward areas to intensify round-the-clock vigilance.
