There may be many question marks looming over the controversial Pan Bahar ad campaign, following Pierce Brosnan’s shocking statement that he was unaware of this popular paan masala brand’s carcinogenic ingredients. However, the brand has clarified that nowhere in the contract was it mentioned that Pan Bahar is a tooth-whitener, as the former James Bond actor has alleged.

Earlier this month, a tuxedo-clad Brosnan had endorsed the brand (which comes with a government-mandated warning declaring it ‘injurious to health’) in a print ad with the slogan, “Class never goes out of style.” Last week, the
Hollywood star revealed he was “deeply shocked and saddened” as “a man who has spent decades championing women’s healthcare and environmental protection”.
Speaking to mid-day, Vikash Shukla, brand manager at Ashok and Co. Pan Bahar Ltd, said, “There is no question of tooth-whitener being mentioned in the contract. One would be a fool to think or even sell paan masala as a tooth-whitening product. No clause in his ad contract was violated.”
Shukla had said on Friday that they’d have a meeting with Brosnan’s team later that evening, however, that hadn’t happened until Saturday night.
The Pan Bahar team has sought clarification from Brosnan and hopes to get a response by Monday.
