There is hardly anything that went right for Pune Warriors India in their second successive painful campaign in the IPL.

Parnell's comments point to selection goof-up by Dada

From openers, to middle-order batsmen, to pacers and spinners, it all can be described in one sentence, “poor”, according to PWI’s South African pacer Wayne Parnell.

PWI skipper Sourav Ganguly has found very few takers for his decision making, as well as his batting this season, and Parnell is certainly not one of them.

When asked about the pitch for their last league game against KKR at home on Saturday, the South African said PWI erred in selection. “Obviously both teams played on it. Personally, I think it was perhaps better adapted to KKR. You know, we had Murali Kartik and Rahul Sharma sitting out, which wasn’t good for us. As you saw, the wicket turned quite a bit,” he said.

And was it the only ‘mistake’ by PWI’s captain charismatic? Certainly not, going by Parnell’s version, who believes there have been wrong teams picked for certain pitches. When asked what went wrong for them this season, the 23-year-old said, “There are a number of factors. We missed Yuvi, Graeme Smith got injured, we have had key guys injured throughout the season. That, combined with probably picking the wrong teams for certain pitches. But, at the end of the day, we are professionals and we should be able to win on all types of wickets, as I said, we have just been really poor.”

It’s no secret that there are a number of foreigners in the PWI team that don’t like Ganguly’s style of operations. It has been said in private, and at times in public. If anyone has doubts about whether Parnell is one of them, read this, and decide on your own.
