Two pastors, who drove a jeep which crushed a 15-year-old girl to death near Thalawady, have been arrested, police said today.
The pastors were reportedly practising driving without the presence of a trainer, sources said.
The 10th standard student was returning home from tuition last evening with another girl when the vehicle hit them.
The other girl was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
Tension prevailed at Thalawady yesterday after an angry crowd attacked a police station and pelted stones at the police quarters, demanding action against the pastors.
They also allegedly tried to torch three state government buses. Police have registered cases against fifty persons for causing damage to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses and also the police station.
Meanwhile, the body of the girl was handed over to her parents this morning after autopsy.
Police are maintaining tight vigil. Police had Monday detained the pastors, who work in a school for the differently abled. Bus traffic which was suspended in Thalawady resumed this morning police with police escort. Other vehicles have also started plying.
