An excited Perizaad Zorabian Irani is all set to usher in the Parsi New Year -- Pateti -- with a performance in Colombo, Sri Lanka tomorrow. Says Perizaad, "Pateti for me is a day for introspection, when I set new goals for myself.u00a0 My aim for the coming year is to expand my business, redo my home and sign a film. I want to do one film in a year; I can manage that." Perizaad talks about the special day:

Who: Perizaad Zorabian Irani
What: Shares her fond Pateti memories
Where: At her residence

In a new cityu00a0
Frankly, I couldn't have started the New Year on a better note. I am kicked about the fact that I will be performing on stage before an international audience on Pateti. Acting is my passion, and what better way to begin the year than by doing what you love? I will miss my family though. However, I have been so busy co-ordinating office, home and kids that I haven't had time to do some online recce on Colombo. My friends are smsing me about sightseeing, shopping, dining destinations in the city. I have heard that Colombo has some excellent crockery shops, so I am planning to buy some for my home. Also, since I am not a shopaholic, I'm not going to go hunting for clothes and jewellery. In fact, my hubby Boman says I am the most boring woman on this planet (laughs out loud) when it comes to buying things for myself.u00a0u00a0

We're family
We are planning a big family get-together the next weekend at Panchgani. The entire family will stay at Il-Palazzo, which is a Parsi-run hotel. I love Parsi dishes like dhansak chawal, patra ni macchi, seviya kheer, lagan nu custard, caramel custard and all the traditional favourites. Post my two kids, I have become very health-conscious, but this is one time when I completely let go. As a community, Parsis work hard and like to party harder. Pateti gives us the perfect opportunity to do so. Moreover, Parsis don't bother much about clothes, jewellery, gifts, etc on festivals. For us, it's just about bhonu (food) and daru (alcohol)! My in-laws live in Parsi colony, Dadar. There we have many Parsi clubs that organise Pateti parties at restaurants and lounge bars. The young generation Parsis party on New Year's Eve and spend the next day with the family. We hold jamming sessions, dancing contests and other fun stuff. I will miss the colony celebrations this time round.u00a0

Soul connect
One of the things I love about Pateti is the visit to the fire temple (agiary). There is so much joie de vivre there; the inside is decked with flowers, while people are their chirpiest best outside greeting one another. There is so much joy, warmth and a sense of belonging. The Pateti day starts with the visit to the agiary followed by a huge family lunch and ends with a long evening party. One of my most cherished Pateti memory is taking my daughter, Zaha to the agiary on her first New Year. It was a very emotional occasion.
Likewise, each Pateti is a special one. But it's also a day to make plans for the coming year. It's the time to look inwards.
