The police finally cracked an unsolved missing person case after finding a pawn receipt in possession of a 24-year-old man. Sadly however, the man had murdered the woman, taken her jewellery and pawned it at a shop in the city.

Hemanth, a resident of Ganapthipura, was nabbed on suspicion while he was planning to rob passers-by along with his associates. The others managed to escape, but upon frisking they found the pawn broker receipt in his wallet.

Truth tumbles out
During questioning, Hemanth confessed that he had murdered Pushpalatha (30), who was working with him in a packaging unit in JP Nagar and pawned her jewellery. Pushpalatha was the only working member and she took care of her family and ailing husband. In March, Hemanth overheard Pushpalatha telling her co-workers that she was planning to go to Ghati Subamanya Temple on the weekend to pray for the wellbeing of her husband.
Seizing the opportunity, Hemanth offered to take Pushpalatha along on the pretext that he is going to the same place. Pushpalatha who was new to the city readily agreed to his offer and on March 9, the duo set out towards Ghati Subamanya.

On the way, Hemanth took her to an isolated spot and stabbed her to death, crushed her head with a boulder to make sure she was dead and after robbing her jewellery, he doused the body with kerosene and set it ablaze. A few days later, Pushpalatha's husband had filed a missing complaint with the police, but the case went cold as the police had no leads. Hemanth on the other hand continued his work as usual and was not a suspect.

Death deal
Hemanth pawned the jewels worth Rs 1 lakh at the pawn brokers. However, the receipt, which he had kept in his purse helped the police to crack the case.u00a0JP Nagar police inspector S K Umesh said, "Hemanth convinced Pushpalatha to wear all her jewellery while going to the temple. He told her that it was necessary to deck herself while praying so that her prayers would be answered quickly." The police have recovered the gold valuables and booked Hemanth for murder and remanded him to judicial custody.
