A group of unidentified men attacked Vilas Madegiri husband of Pimpri-Chinchwad BJP Vice President Varsha Madegiri while he was busy with the preparations of a cultural programme that was to be held in Bhosari last evening

Madegiri, who was beaten with blunt objects, was rushed to PCMC-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) and his condition is said to be stable now.

Medical Superintendent of YCMH Dr Anand Jagdale said, “Madegiri has sustained injuries on his head, face, knee and stomach. He is in trauma, and we’ll keep him under observation for the next 24-hours.” Jagdale said.

According to Eknath Pawar, BJP president of Pimpri-Chinchwad, the attackers were know to Madegiri.

“He was testing the microphone when seven people went up to him and asked him he was making noise. They, all of a sudden, started beating him and then fled from the spot,” Pawar said.

Pawar alleged that the attackers belonged to another political party. “They are in a tussle with Madegiri since the last PCMC election,” he said. Madegiri’s wife Varsha is a BJP corporator from Indrayani Nagar in Bhosari.

Police however said that Madegiri hasn’t lodged any complaint against anybody yet.
