If you thought humans fought for love, take a look at how aashiqui plays out in the world of penguins. The Internet is having a blast over footage of a male penguin, who returned to find his partner had allowed another male into their home, in footage from Nat Geo. The fight has moved to social media, with the wife alleging she was only seeking warmth while he was philandering.

Forget the bickering saas-bahus on India television, wildlife programmes provide for better fodder with plot lines that are far more dangerously real. No surprises why the Internet has gone crazy over footage of a brutal penguin love triangle, which was captured by the National Geographic Channel for its new Animal Fight Night series.

The clip, which went viral, shows a cuckolded penguin belonging to the 200,000-strong colony of Magellanic species, flipping out after coming back to his nest to discover that the mother of his children has moved another penguin into their home.

The penguin, stunned by his cheating wife’s antics, then challenges the male rival to a fight, but is wounded in the bloody brawl. Things only get worse for him when the fight stops temporarily and the two males call out to the female to choose between them. The female doesn’t hesitate once, before choosing the “home wrecker”. The husband is forced to leave his nest, but not before tripping over a branch. Wait, the story doesn’t end here.

Even as the Internet reached out to show solidarity with the jilted male penguin who was dumped by his ‘adulterous wife’, there appears to be a fresh twist. The wife Penguin is not taking any more nonsense, and going by a new Twitter account, she is out to tell her side of the story. “...my husband kept cheating and coming home late at night and this dude was always there for me when I was cold,” @wifepenguin has tweeted. She signs off, with one powerful ammo, “I stand for all females that are being victimised and being wrongfully painted as hoes...”

Well, at least, this penguin tale is a reminder that there is always two sides to a story.
