On the basis of a complaint filed by Varad Vishwanath Rambaugkar, a friend of the deceased, the police arrested Sonya alias Vijay Kalbhor, Ajay Kalbhor, Sumit Jagtap, Amol Sonawane, Arvind Kambale and Kiran Khandare in connection with the murder. The police said all the arrested accused were residents of Akurdi.

Police Inspector Nandakishor Bhosale-Patil from the Nigdi police station said Kambale had rented out his place to students and Ingale would often come over to study with them. The police said Kambale's employee Khandare objected to this, which led to a verbal spat between the two.

The police said on Monday night Vijay Kalbhor sorted out the matter between the two, but Ingale and Khandare ran into each other near the Maruti Mandir area a few hours later and a fight erupted. When this happened, Ingale was accompanied by Rambaugkar and one Nikhil. The police said Kambale's friend Ajay Kalbhor attacked Ingale with a knife.

Rambaugkar was also assaulted by the accused but sustained only minor injuries, said the police. According to the police, after Ingale fell down the six accused ran away. Ingale's two friends admitted him to YCM hospital, where he was declared dead.
