Canberra: Phillip Hughes' older brother scored 63 on his return to cricket — the same number his sibling amassed in his final innings.

Australia international Hughes was hit at the back of the neck by a short-pitched ball from Sean Abbott on November 25 and died in hospital two days later. Ten days after Hughes' funeral, his brother Jason returned to the crease for the first time to play for Mosman in their grade cricket match against Sydney.

Jason coincidentally scored exactly 63 before he was caught by Harry Dalton off the bowling of Nathan Sowter. The batsman was reported to be unaware he was on 63 when he was dismissed.

The number 63 has been used in many tributes to Phillip Hughes following his death, including a 63-second applause at the start of the first Test between India and Australia this week.
