Freelance sports photojournalist Dheeraj Dikshit was allegedly attacked by some unknown assailants on Saturday. The incident was reported in the afternoon when Dikshit, a resident of Pitampura, was going to south Delhi in his Chevrolet Optra.

Some assailants in a cherry-coloured Santro allegedly chased and intercepted him. They pulled him out of the car and started abusing him. When he retaliated, they attacked him with belts and hockey sticks. While the incident took place in front of heavy traffic, no one came to help Dheeraj. Some policemen in the area heard the noise and ran towards the spot, but by the time they reached, the assailants had fled already.

As usual
"Prima facie it seems like an incident of road rage. An FIR has been registered following the complaint of the victim. Before our team could reach the spot, the assailants had already fled. The victim's statement has been taken and we are investigating the case. The registration number of the car has been found and we will arrest the culprits soon," said a senior police official.

"The driver of the car was swinging his belt in the air. The assailants followed me from Narayana to Moti Bagh and then amidst busy traffic, they intercepted my car and attacked me. They also broke the windshields of my car. At one point, when they were chasing me, I felt they also fired at my car," Dikshit said. However, the police have denied the incident of firing. Dikshit was taken to the Safdarjung hospital for treatment.
