'Who told you that spiritualism has to be serious? You should come to the class. You'll be pleasantly surprised.'
'Who told you that spiritualism has to be serious? You should come to the class. You'll be pleasantly surprised." Gearing up for a new batch of classes this week, model-turned-Art of Living guru Rhea Pillai dispels some myths about spiritualism:
WHO: Rhea Pillai
WHAT: Talking about spirituality
WHERE: At her residence in Bandra
In all seriousness
The classes are great fun. We have a young crowd of people in their 20s and 30s who are really intelligent and ask the most interesting questions. In fact I realise that I get to learn even as I teach. Youngsters today are in control of all the choices they make in order to be happy. But to know what really makes you happy or what is good for you, you need a deep understanding of your own self and meditation can help you achieve that. In fact, even my three-year-old daughter Aiyana is so intrigued with the Satsangs I hold at home and my daily meditation. Otherwise such a lively kid, she and our pet Coco sit through them all very quietly. I get quite taken aback at all questions she asks me about spiritualism and life. So I don't think that spiritualism has anything to do with age, only with the quest to know more.
Handy crutch
Spiritualism is not a crutch you need to cope with the emotional problems in your life. It doesn't give you any ready answers. It needs to be a way of life. It needs you to be brutally honest with yourself. The quest to search within oneself has to come from within. Although it is very complicated and difficult at the start, it improves as the quest deepens. Self-understanding will help you release all the negativity that binds you and transform you from within. I believe that when you meditate, the pureness of your intentions and goodness of what you wish for, will eventually make things happen.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
Pretty young things
Yes, they do say that our courses are full of pretty girls. But I have been a model myself and from my experience of training with beauty pageants I know that certain breathing techniques can detoxify your system and can actually clear the complexion. Meditation also helps in improving your carriage and confidence. Also, when one is comfortable with oneself, one is free of all the negativity, and the inner goodness tends to shine. It is like success. So while many of the guys and girls coming to class may not be aesthetically beautiful, yes they do look great.
