'Lion' director Garth Davis bags the First Time Director award at the DGA

At the DGA Awards in 2016 a honours category was introduced for 'First-Time Director', and this year at the annual ceremony held this past weekend was successfully bagged by Garth Davis his directorial expertise in 'Lion'

At the DGA Awards in 2016 a honours category was introduced for 'First-Time Director', and this year at the annual ceremony held this past weekend was successfully bagged by Garth Davis his directorial expertise in 'Lion'.

Garth being an Australian television, film and commercial director known best for directing episodes of 'Top of The Lake', which got him Emmy and BAFTA nominations, has now been awarded for his work on 'Lion', starring his much talked about cast, including Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and Sunny Pawar. The film is based on Saroo Brierley's bestseller, 'A Long Way Home', and is based on true emotional journey of Saroo himself. At the Beverly Hilton, where the DGA was hosted.

The nominations for the same category was with Time Miller for Deadpool, Kelly Fremon Craig, Edge of Seventeen, Nate Parker, The Birth of a Nation and Dan Trachtenberg for 10 Cloverfield Lane. Davis is the second person to win this award after Alex Garland for the sci-fi 'Ex Machina' at DGA. Though, Davis is not yet running for Best Director at this year's Oscars, the film has already received six nominations including Best Picture at the biggest film award ceremony in the world.

The grand premiere in India was a success where Garth was present to introduce the film ahead of its India release in Mumbai and was attended by renowned Bollywood actors, supporting the film. Garth claims to be confident about his film 'Lion' and hopes people embrace it all around the world as it links to a true overwhelming incident.
