Plane skids on Indore runway, delays flight in Mumbai

A skid on the Indore airport runway by a Jet Airways aircraft delayed an Indigo flight in Mumbai by a good four hours.

The flight (6E 658) carrying 177 passengers was bound for Indore from Mumbai and was scheduled for departure at 7.35 pm on Saturday. The skidding incident took place around 7.50 pm.

The flight to Indore had to return from the ramp and the passengers were made to wait inside the aircraft throughout the duration, along with the four crewmembers.

“We were enquiring with the airport authorities after every half an hour and we were informed that the runway will be made operational in some time, but it took four hours to restore the services,” said an Indigo spokesperson.

The flight finally took off at 11.40 pm.

A Jet Airways spokesperson said, “Jet Airways flight 9W 2793 from Delhi to Indore, departed the paved surface after landing. All 66 guests and four crew aboard were deplaned and taken to the terminal building.”

Meanwhile, an official of the Indore airport said that the skid might have happened “due to harsh landing”.

Another delay
This skid delayed another Indigo flight, that was to leave Indore and come to Mumbai and then finally to Kolkata. An Indigo flight, numbered 6E 587 (Indore to Mumbai), was scheduled to depart for Kolkata from Mumbai by 9.30 pm. Irked passengers forced the airline company to make an alternative arrangement and so another aircraft (6E 595) was arranged, which left for Kolkata with 173 passengers and 4 crewmembers, at 12.30am.
