Players must undergo lie detector test: Justice Qayyum

To find out the truth behind Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed's sensational revelation that his teammates tried fixing 'almost every match', one needs to do a polygraph test, feels Pakistani judge Malik Mohammad Qayyum.

Qayyum imposed life bans on former captain Salim Malik and bowler Ata-ur-Rehman during the 2000 match-fixing saga.

"Whether the players are telling the truth or hiding anything can easily be detected by a polygraph test," Qayyum said.

Are lie detector test permissible in court? "It is not mandatory and the players have a right to say no to these tests," 67-year-old Qayyum said, before adding, "but in the interest of cricket followers, they should not decline."
