A month after Sahil Mishra, 21, was killed in a hit-and-run incident on the Western Express Highway, the Oshiwara police on Monday nabbed the tempo driver who had allegedly dashed into the victim's bike and left him to die.

The accused has been identified as Harishchandra Yadav, a resident of Ghatkopar. The only clue cops had was that the suspect's vehicle was a white tempo. A police officer said, "We found CCTV footage from the Western Express Highway, after which the police started looking for the white tempo. It was found in Asalfa Village in Ghatkopar, and the accused was nabbed from there."

Sahil had turned 21 just 10 days before the accident on July 15. On the day of the incident, he had told his family that he was going to meet his grandmother in Veera Desai, Andheri, and would return home in some time. On his way home to Jogeshwari East, the tempo driver crashed into his bike near the Balasaheb Thackeray flyover.

The driver sped away, without informing the police or getting medical assistance for Sahil. The youth suffered major head injuries and injuries on his hands and legs, which resulted in his death.

The Oshiwara police registered a case against the accused under Section 304A of the IPC and section 134 (A) (B) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Surjit Mishra, Sahil's uncle, said, "It is still hard to believe that such a cheerful boy is no more."
