Cops say the deceased's four friends who are being questioned have been changing their statements, but maintain it was an accident; his relatives, however, believe he was murdered
With more questions than answers emerging in the inquest vis-a-vis the death of 20-year-old Steven Quadros, whose body was found on the railway tracks near Vasai station on Sunday evening, Government Railway Police (GRP) officials are now attempting to reconstitute the scene of the incident to determine whether the youth was run over by a train or was he, in fact, murdered.

Yesterday, GRP representatives conducted a spot panchnama. While the friends Steven was partying with prior to his death Reese Valladares, Tanvi Sharma, Shaleen Fernandes, and Allwin Jude maintain that he lost his life in an accident, the deceased’s kin suspect his companions killed him.
GRP officers said that by recreating the scene they are trying to establish the direction in which blood was splashed, which would help determine the cause of Steven’s death. “We will then match our findings with the second post-mortem report that is awaited from JJ hospital to take the case forward,” said inspector PS Bhangre from the Vasai GRP.
Cops said that yesterday they found a few drops of blood at the spot, which is 1.5 kilometres from Vasai railway station. “We are trying to ascertain the position in which Steven was seconds before he died. By this we will be able to deduce whether he was hit by a train or murdered,” added Bhangre.
Vasai GRP officials also revealed that Steven’s friends have been changing their statements frequently, which is not helping investigations. “The four have said that Steven got drunk and began running on the tracks late in the evening. Allwin pursued him, but hurt his leg. Meanwhile, Steven was run over. However, earlier these people were claiming that they had gone to the location to answer nature’s call. Steven did not see the train and was hit, while the others managed to escape,” said an officer. Cops have now asked for the call details of the youngsters.
“Primary investigations reveal that it was a railway accident. However, we are inquiring on the basis of circumstantial evidence to ascertain the exact sequence of events before Steven’s death,” said Bansidhar Shirsat, deputy commissioner of police (GRP).
Some friends and relatives of Steven have alleged that Allwin and Shaleen were in a relationship, and Allwin was angry at Steven’s closeness to her, which may have led to the murder. The deceased is survived his mother Matilda Quadros. His father passed away when he was three years old. Steven was working on an ONGC oil rig and had come to his Chapel Road home in Bandra on leave.
