Politician 'eats' hat after party's electoral defeat

And that too with tomato sauce

Melbourne: A South African politician gnawed at a hat after swearing to eat one if his party lost in this week’s elections.

Mosiuoa Lekota, leader of the small Congress of the People (COPE) party, picked one out of several hats that were offered to him with tomato sauce on hand. While chewing on it, he joked that he didn’t promise that he would eat the whole hat.
