Poonam Mahajan meets MNS chief

Daughter of slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, Poonam's surprise visit to MNS chief Raj Thackeray at his residence in Dadar on Friday fuelled speculations in the political circles about her next move.

"I met Raj Thackeray to wish him for Gudhi Padawa and the visit has nothing to do with politics," Poonam, who has been denied Lok Sabha ticket from Mumbai North-East, told reporters after having lunch with him.

Asked if she was upset with the BJP for not giving ticket for Lok Sabha polls, she said, "No... I am a daughter of Pramod Mahajan and loyal to the party. I would continue to work for the party as a worker."

Echoing Poonam's statement, Raj said, "I have family relations with Mahajan and she had come to wish me on New Year. The meet was decided much before."

Poonam's name had figured in the South Mumbai constituency race, but it went to Shiv Sena in the seat sharing.

BJP has fielded former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya from North-East seat angering Poonam's uncle and senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

Munde, who is contesting Lok Sabha election from Beed has however, said that he was not angry and clarified that he will not demand anything from the party and continue to work for it.

The BJP wanted Poonam to take on Congress candidate Priya Dutt from Mumbai North Central. Fearing defeat she had rejected the offer.
