Mamta Prabhu, ranked among the top eight in the country, had to fight hard before beating Hardik Panchal in five-games to make the quarter-finals of the Rs one lakh All India World Hardbat table tennis qualifiers, hosted by Sports Reconnect at Juhu Vile Parle Gym yesterday.
Earlier Mamta downed Anu Prabhikar, a third year BMS student from BARC, 21-10, 21-17, 21-11. Former National veteran champions, Prakash Kelkar and KK Rai, likewise made the last eight grade, while top seeded Noel Pinto played waiting game to perfection while subduing seasoned veteran Jitu Mavani 21-15, 21-14, 21-18. Young Rajesh Singh made Yogesh Desai huff and puff before Yogesh was through with 20-22, 21-15, 21-14, 21-13 win.
