Prank call leads to bomb hoax at Mahalaxmi building

An anonymous telephone call that a bomb was planted at a building in south Mumbai's Mahalaxmi on Thursday set off panic and forced the cops to evacuate the entire building. However, it turned out to be a hoax, police said.

Star India Private Limited received a call with the caller claiming that to have placed a bomb inside their office premises in Urmi Estate on Ganpatrao Kadam Marg in Mahalaxmi. According to the police officials, the Star officials immediately informed the local N.M.Joshi police station. The cops immediately dispatched a sniffer squad, bomb squad, Anti-Terrorist Squad, Crime Branch Unit 3 along with the local police.

A police officer who was present at the spot, requesting anonymity, said, "They got a call in the afternoon after which the several teams were dispatched instantly and a search was carried out. However, it turned to be a hoax call, but we have recovered the number of the caller and it seems that the caller isn’t from the city but a resident of Maharashtra."
