"It's not easy to write on crime because the reader is constantly with you and challenges the writer that 'I've known it before you' and 'I know what you're trying to do'. It's a big challenge to write on crime," Joshi said at the launch of Moitrayee Bhaduri's book, "The Sinister Silence".

Joshi also said that we need writers who write on crime because irrespective of whether we want it or not, crime is somehow part of our lives.

"There is a basic instinct of crime in humans, eventually humans are animals... you have that violent, animal side somewhere deep down in all of us."

"The news TRPs go up with crime. We've seen it since time immemorial that crime has engaged human beings. There is a certain kind of comfort you get after reading or watching crime. You go through the thrill without actually experiencing the thrill," he added.

The ad guru says he is yet to explore the genre, but he always tries to write something and "explore new subjects".

"If I feel sufficient material is there, I would definitely explore it," said Joshi, who has written of songs for films like "Taare Zameen Par" and "Fanaa".
