After finding many nurseries in state flout guidelines, education dept arrives at decision to implement standard curriculum from next academic year
In order to bring all pre-primary schools and nurseries under one umbrella and establish uniformity among them, while setting up a diverse academic initiative, the state education department has decided to introduce a common and regular syllabus from the next year.
Sources say that the decision was taken after Maharashtra State Council for Educational Research and Training (MSCERT) and Forum for Fairness in Education (FFE) drafted a proposal last year and put forth recommendations to implement a common curriculum to the state education department and the state government.
The MSCERT earlier had highlighted how some of these pre-primary schools and playgroups, which are rapidly increasing, especially in the city and Mumbai, were not abiding by the guidelines of the department. Since the recommendations have been accepted by the education department all pre-primary schools and nurseries across the state will have the same syllabus.
The state education department will however implement the new system in some pre-primary schools in Mumbai and Pune before they implement it in schools across the state. Sources say that after the introduction of a common curriculum the education department might regulate all pre-primary schools.u00a0
u00a0"The fee structure in all schools is different. In some schools children are forced to take up skating, swimming or other activities much to the dislike of the parents as it creates extra pressure on the child. The new curriculum should be directed by the government even for CBSE, ICSE board and even playgroups," said Jayant Jain, president of FFE and a member of a state appointed committee for pre-primary schools.
