After a four-year sabbatical, actress Preity Zinta is set to return to the big screen with Bhaiyyaji Superhit, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. In an interview to hitlist, Preity said staying away from movies temporarily was a deliberate move. “I realised it was fine if I didn’t do movies because people would remember me as an actor anyway. Staying away from films was a conscious call to concentrate on business (she co-owns an IPL franchise). I wanted the world to take me seriously as an entrepreneur.”

Preity married US-based entrepreneur Gene Goodenough last year, and it’s him she credits for inspiring her to act again. “Unless you are married or dating someone from the film industry, spouses aren’t open to the idea of a woman working in films. But I am fortunate to have a supportive husband. At first, I found it strange, but I took the opportunity and here I am, back in front of the camera,” she said.

Preity sticks to the character she does best, an energetic woman. She now hopes to do at least one film every year. Which means that she has accepted erratic schedules and staying away from her husband for long hauls. “Gene is based Los Angeles and I am here in Mumbai. But we somehow manage our schedules. I love being in this city [Mumbai], and just when I start to get bored, I fly to America (laughs).”

Last week, she had another taste of glamour when she walked the ramp for designer Sanjukta Dutta at the just-concluded Mumbai fashion week. “Since I had to wear a saree for the first time on ramp, I was nervous. I am happy everything went well,” she said.
