The Anti-Organised Crime Cell (AOCC) of the city police has taken preventive action against as many as 260 criminals on police records ahead of the civic elections, which are slated to take place on February 16.
The cell summoned them to the Crime Branch and warned them strict action would be taken if they were found creating a ruckus during the ongoing election process in the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Bansode said: "We had instructed our Anti-Organised Crime Cell of south and north regions to make a list of the criminals on police records who were involved in body offences, rioting and other crimes in the past and asked for all of them to be summoned to the Crime Branch to take preventive action against them.
As per the instructions, our officers have summoned 260 criminals on records and preventive action has been taken against them."
To ensure peaceful civic election in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the police externed 31 criminals on police records from the district for 14 days. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dnayneshwar Chavan said: "We have taken action against 112 criminals ahead of civic elections for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation."
