ACB officials say the accused had asked for the bribe from a parent whose child was ineligible for a Std XII science seat
The principal of a popular city college and his personal assistant were arrested yesterday by officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
Ajit Singh Amar Singh Tethi, principal of Guru Nanak Khalsa College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Matunga had allegedly offered to reserve a seat for a student seeking admission in science faculty in Std XII.

ACB officials said since the student was not eligible for admission in the college, his parents had approached Tethi’s personal assistant (PA), Nikita Hetan Vaid, for help. Initially, Vaid told the parents that it would cost them Rs 30,000.
But the deal was settled at R25,000. She told them that they would not get any receipt for the amount, and the money would be divvied up.
“The parent, who was unhappy with the demand, approached the ACB and registered a complaint against the duo. ACB officials then laid a trap and arrested Vaid while accepting the bribe in the college. Tethi was arrested later,” said an ACB official.
Constable held
Meanwhile, ACB officials arrested Constable Sajjan Ibrahim Momin from Sahar police station for demanding hafta from a developer who was constructing an illegal building.
“Momin used to take hafta regularly but on Thursday he was demanding Rs 10,000. This enraged the builder who then approached us. We laid a trap and arrested Momin red-handed,” said an ACB official.
