Principals to take 'calls'

Admissions season at Delhi University brings joy for thousands of aspirants who 'make it' and sorrow for lakhs of others who are left behind. It's also a season that ushers in waves of problems, and somebody has to answer them. The ones with the grievances are usually candidates and their parents. The answers have to come from college authorities.

In light of this, the students' welfare office at DU has asked all the colleges to inform them about their respective grievances committee. But 13 colleges are yet to respond.

"Grievances committee is an important aspect during the time of admissions; many students come to us with their problems. But the first step is to contact the grievances committee of the respective college and if they are not able to solve it, then students should come to us," said Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, Deputy Dean, Students' Welfare, Delhi University (DU).

"I went to the college and I did not find anyone who could guide me. Later I went to the students' welfare office where they answered my queries. Even here, there was no notification about the grievances committee of the college," said Saurabh Kumar, who went to Maharaja Agrasen College for admission.

In their latest action, Dean, Students' Welfare (DSW) has sent a letter to all the 13 colleges saying that if the institutes did not sent any intimation about their committee, automatically, the principal's number of each college will be displayed in the notice.

The defaulter list includes names of Daulat Ram College, Kamala Nehru College, Ramjas College, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College etc. While, few of the colleges have already sent names of their members in grievances committee, many are still unsure whether they have received any such letter or not.

The Other Side
"Yes, we have received the letter. I have sent them the names of three people from our college who will look after the students' grievances. I hope, they have received it," said Minoti Chatterjee, principal, Kamala Nehru
College (KNC).
